Romantic Composer: Felix Mendelssohn

This week we are covering music during the Romantic period.  I used A Gift of Music: Great Composers and Their Influence by Jane Stuart Smith and Betty Carlson to read through several composers' biographies.

Here is an excerpt from the chapter on Felix Mendelssohn whom we covered today: 
The music of Felix Mendelssohn breathes goodness and happiness.  His name Felix means "the happy one."  He was a gifted person, and he used his gifts to the glory of God.
My son, Lorenzo, who is 17 years now, has taken piano lessons for over thirteen years and has studied and memorized the compositions of a long list of classical composers, including Felix Mendelssohn.  This is Songs Without Words, Op. 53, No. 6.  He just turned nine when he performed this piece:
